Set in 1303 AD medieval India, Padmaavat was all about Rajputi splendour. The movie told the story of a Sinhalese warrior queen, Padmavati (played by Deepika Padukone) who was known for her exceptional beauty, and married Maharawal Ratan Singh, the king of Chittor (Shahid Kapoor). Much like most of Sanjay Leela Bhansali films, this 2017 release brought together opulent costumes, larger-than-life sets and ace actors in lead roles. Designers Rimple & Harpreet Narula were roped in to dress Padukone for the film. One of the noteworthy outfits was the lehenga worn by the actor in the song ‘Ghoomar’, which was brought to life with signature twirls from Rajasthani folk dance. The actor was seen wearing a red lehenga (which weighed 30 kilos!). Padukone completed the look with traditional jewellery designed by Tanishq. For any bride who’d like to take the regal route for her wedding ceremony, this one’s a must-see.
